Job Description

Casual Support Workers will be responsible for assisting clients within the Shelter space. This role will provide support and empower clients by connecting with them during their shift either one-on-one or in a group atmosphere.

  • Provide crisis intervention, counselling, abuse education, development of safety plan, resource information and referrals to clients.
  • Acting as an advocate for clients.
  • Organize and facilitate groups: researching and planning topics, develop resources and materials.
  • Answering crisis phone line; troubleshooting, offering support and advocacy or alternative resources when required.
  • Managing client intakes and assessments; creating client files, entering information into internal system, processing paperwork.
  • Provide short term respite care to children within the Shelter.
  • Assisting with general client and facility care; cooking, cleaning, and answering doors.
  • This role will also assist with the Residential Program as needed.

Educations & Experience

We are looking for key areas of experience to fill this position: 

  • Experience working in a Trauma Informed setting is preferred 
  • Knowledge and experience working in Gender Based Violence preferred 
  • Maintain highly private and confidential information 
  • Ability to self manage and have initiative to take on projects that require completion 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment 
  • Promotes a healthy and reliable work environment 
  • High attention to detail when completing client notes in WISH or HIFIS 
  • Present an image of a positive role model to clients within Shelter 
  • Capable of creating and implementing boundaries for a healthy work and life balance 
  • Able to handle highly stressful situations calmly and with professionalism 
  • Knowledge and ability to create positive working relationships with internal co-workers and external agencies 
  • Food Safe Certification, and First Aid/CPR are required for this position 
  • Criminal Record Check and Adult/Child Abuse Registry required

Dr. Omolayo Famuyide

Dr. Omolayo Famuyide, MD, CCFP, FCFP, NCMP, is the Founder and Medical Director of the Layo Centre, a comprehensive women’s health clinic based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Recently distinguished as a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (FCFP)—an honour recognizing exceptional contributions to family medicine through clinical excellence, leadership, and advocacy—Dr. Famuyide brings a rare and multidisciplinary perspective to her practice as a former practicing pharmacist turned family physician and women’s health specialist.

Her dedication to advancing women’s health led her to complete a prestigious fellowship at the University of Toronto, a world-leading institution in the field. As a Certified Menopause Practitioner through The Menopause Society, she is widely recognized for her clinical expertise in reproductive health, advanced contraception, and menopause management.

A trusted voice in her field, Dr. Famuyide is regularly invited to speak at local and national conferences on sexual health and menopause. She is also a frequent media contributor, with featured appearances on Global News, CTV News, CityNews, and in the Winnipeg Free Press and Chatelaine Magazine.

Dr. Famuyide’s leadership extends well beyond her clinical practice.
